The base oil group II is the base oil that gets extracted and refined from petroleum crude oil. The process by which this occurs is the hydrocracking process. What it does is transform the larger molecules into smaller ones under high hydrogen pressure.

The further you get from the group I base oil, the more refined it gets. This makes group II base oil purer than group I. It also has a more stable and clear colour.
